Match Fixing is a potential threat to everyone in sport. EU Athletes is determined to make sure that players are informed about sports betting integrity issues and that everyone knows the risks and the dangers of associating with match fixers.
We are leading the way in developing and promoting effective education programmes for players on sports betting integrity and the prevention of match fixing. Working with our member player associations, our programmes are being rolled out across 13 European countries and 12 different sports.
To help the members deliver the education we are running tutor training conferences in Berlin and Athens in 2013. We are also providing support materials and a dedicated website with advice and help points.
The most important part of our education programme is that it is delivered through face-to-face sessions at clubs by people the players know and trust – their player associations. This is labour intensive but experience has shown it to be one of the best ways to get messages to players.
Thanks to our funding from the European Commission and also the private betting companies we are also able to provide funding to our member player associations to help with the costs of team visits.
