European Sectorial Social Dialogue Committee

European Sectorial Social Dialogue Committee

On 20 September 2012 at the European Sport Forum in Cyprus, Nicosia, the recognised Social Partners, UNI Europa, its affiliate EU Athletes and EASE (the association of European Sport Employers) have officially launched the ESSDC (European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee) .

Since this day the employer and the employees of the European sport sector have been meeting on regular bases in Brussels to discuss about the issues related to employment. The sport sector has 3 sub committee :

  • Not-for-profit sport.
  • Professional sport.
  • Active leisure.

Each committee is independent and EU Athletes has a leading role for the professional sport sub group. Since 2012 a lot of progress have been made with the signature of the minimum requirement of working contract, the creation of a Risk Assessment Tool for Sport elaborated in partnership with EU-OSHA, social dialogue projects financed by the DG employment that aim to strengthen the social dialogue at the national level and more recently a joint opinion on ‘Strengthening employability in the sport and active leisure sector’.

The social dialogue is an essential element of the good governance in the sport sector and an increased participation of national and European sport federations and professional leagues would bring benefits to employees and employers alike.
