EU Athletes has participated in the plenary meeting of the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Sports and Active Leisure (ESSDC), which has taken place on the 17th of November in Brussels.
The social dialogue is a unique platform for employees of the sport sector, represented by UNI Europa and employers represented by EASE, to discuss common issues related to sport in Europe.
More specific matters related to each sub-sectors (Professional Sport, Not-for-profit Sport and Active Leisure) are dealt with within working groups’ sessions.
During the meeting, the Work Plan for 2016 and the ongoing activities of the Committee, including the Joint Opinion “Strengthening the Employability in the Sport and Active Leisure Sector” have been discussed. It was also an opportunity to learn more about the social partners’ activities and achievements and to engage interesting exchanges regarding the affiliates’ priorities and the challenges that they are facing. The participants have also been informed that the OiRA Risk Assessment Tool for Sport, elaborated in partnership with EU-OSHA has been finalized.
The social dialogue is an essential element of the good governance in the sport sector and an increased participation of national and European sport federations and professional leagues would bring benefits toemployees and employers alike.
The next ESSDC meeting has been scheduled on the 5thof February in Brussels.
